Ulterior Lands

The land has a motive. Find out what it wants.

Pixel-art MMORPG PC · Android · iOS Cross-play Release TBA
About the game

A living world that wants something.

Ulterior Lands is a pixel-art MMORPG about settlers stranded on a strange world that was never meant for them. You start with nothing but a bronze axe. You chop your first logs and cook your first meal, then work your way up to forging steel, mastering your crafts and facing creatures the size of houses.

The walled town of Landfall is the last safe place, kept that way by the light of an ancient Beacon. Beyond its gates the wilds grow more dangerous with every step. Far to the south, something called the Bloom is spreading, and the Beacon is starting to dim.

It's one shared world for everyone, played together on PC, Android and iOS.

Features

Every level means something.

Progress at your own pace. Every skill you train opens up new places, new gear and new challenges.

01

Skills that grow with you

Level up Power, Defense and Health in combat, and Woodcutting, Mining, Smithing, Cooking and Firemaking out in the world. More skills are on the way.

02

Gather it. Forge it. Wear it.

Mine ore, smelt it into iron and steel bars, and hammer out your own weapons, armour and tools. Cook what you hunt, but watch it, or it burns.

03

Bosses born from the land

Every zone hides an original boss whose arena is part of the fight. Take them on solo or with up to eight friends in your own private instance.

04

Danger grows with distance

The further you walk from Landfall, the tougher the wilds become. Shortcuts open up as your skills grow: climb a vine wall, slide down a root chute.

05

Better together

Form parties, keep a friends list, whisper across the world, and trade face to face with a two-step confirm screen that keeps every deal fair.

06

One world, every device

Full cross-play between PC, Android and iOS. Your character and progress go wherever you play.

The world

Earth-familiar. Alien-wrong.

Every region starts out looking like home, until it doesn't. The trees breathe, the sap glows, and every native creature has six legs.

Safe

Landfall

The walled refuge town at the centre of the map. Bank, shops, forges and the Beacon.

Lv 3–30

The Mirewood

A jungle swamp of stilt-rooted trees, fog and black water, crossed by rickety boardwalks.

Lv 12–50

Frostspine Peaks

Terraced mountains of snow and giant ice spikes, hiding a cave full of gems.

Story

The Sporelands

A twilight realm of colossal glowing mushrooms, and the heart of the mystery.

Coming later

Tidewatch Coast

A harbour, a half-built ship, and an open sea waiting to be explored.

Spotlight

The first five bosses.

Each one is an original creature born from its zone, with its own arena trick to learn. Beat one to unlock the next.

I

Hollowhorn

Bellow of the Rootmaze

It charges blindly through the swamp maze. Dodge so its horns bury in a root pillar, then strike while it's stuck.

II

Driftmaw

The Thing Beneath the Snow

It swims under the snow and surfaces to strike. Lure it into an ice spike and make it pay.

III

The Fenlantern

The Light in the Fog

Cut a vine and two grow back, unless there's fire nearby. Light the old fire-bowls to turn the fight.

IV

The Gloamwarden

Keeper of the Way Down

Its spore breath grows stronger with every gill-fan that opens. Silence the humming roots to fold them shut.

V

The Stillmaker

Deep in the Glimmerdeep

Its flash turns everything it sees to crystal. Hide behind the statues of those who came before you.

Early, work-in-progress looks at the game. Expect everything to get better from here.
